April 29, 2008 Topic: Probate Atlanta Tax, Estate Planning and Probate Lawyer Blog When I first mentioned doing a blog on my practice areas to a friend, his first words were: "How do you make tax interesting?" I have always found this widespread perception to be curious. There is no question that tax code provisions and regulations (intentionally) read like a foreign language to most people who don't do tax for a living. However, both when I worked in IRS Chief Counsel and now working for taxpayers in private practice, I find that virtually every case has a compelling human story behind it. That's what makes practicing in this area so much fun to me. When someone comes to me for estate planning, there are always unique twists to their circumstances, life stories and family relationships. Then, once the probate process begins, there is no end to the drama, scandal and intrigue. If you want to interact with some of the most noble people that you will ever come across-- and the darkest villains-- probate court is the place to find them. It is one of those times where emotions are intensified exponentially and decades of thoughts, grudges and emotions flow to the surface. Our goal is to follow the trends and developments in these areas of law. We welcome all comments, questions and input. |
